If you wish to get a flavour of the elite colonial-style British tearoom or the elite European cake culture in the heart of the city of joy, you must visit Flurys outlet located in Park Street area. The range of mouth-watering delicacies includes Blueberry Cheese Cake, Choco Truffle Cake, Pineapple Butter Cream Cake, Strawberry Butter-Cream Cake and Chocolate Butter-Cream cake to name a few. Priced around Rs 550 to 800, these are perfect for celebrations. However, if you want to keep it to a small slice of happiness, opt for their range of pastries like Chocolate Cube Pastry, Almond Cube Pastry, Rumball and Almond Horse Shoe, priced between Rs 90 to Rs120.

Nahoum and Sons

Known for its legendary pastries, decadent cream-filled cakes and lemon tarts, this Jewish Bakery located in New Market is known for its old world charm. Whether it’s the menu, the decor or the ambience- Nahoum and Sons have not given in to the flamboyant demands of modern times. Founded by a Baghdadi Jew- Nahoum Israel Mordeca, in 1902, nothing has changed about the store over all these years- be it the traditional glass display or the teakwood furniture.  Its deliciously sweet Rum Balls, rich and moist plum cakes, fresh and fluffy fruit cakes are loved by the cake-lovers of Kolkata. It’s one of the most renowned bakeries that have stood the test of time. Be prepared to queue up for about one hour if you are planning to buy your Christmas cakes during the festive season.

Kookie Jar

Though Kookie Jar has a chain of cake shops scattered all across the city, their Loudon Street outlet and Salt Lake City Centre 1 outlet seem to be quite admired among the dessert lovers of Kolkata. The scrumptious aroma of freshly baked bread is a major attraction here. Whether it’s the Salted Caramel Pastry or the Lemon Tarts, Chocolate Boat or Black Forest Pastry- they simply melt in your mouth and it’s all about experiencing sheer bliss! The Chocolate Truffle Cake with the rich chocolate cream and crunchy caramel is quite popular and the Swiss Roll with soft creamy layers inside would never fail to amaze you.

While these three names feature as glaring examples of legendary and iconic bakeries in Kolkata, there are quite a few other cake shops that would never disappoint you. Stay tuned for a post that will be soon posted on the best places for cakes in Kolkata.
