Nykaa Lavender Essential Oil Review

BY SOMREETA MUKHERJEE

I love aromatic products and when it comes to essential oils, lavender is certainly one of my favourites. A few months back, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Nykaa was offering flat 50 percent discount on its range of essential oils. I picked up this bottle of Nykaa Lavender oil at a discounted price of just Rs 175/- instead of Rs 350, which is the original marked price. Today I would like to review this oil in this post:

Priced at Rs 350 for a 10 ml bottle, Nykaa Lavender Essential Oil is a colourless oil that comes in a concentrated form. It needs to be mixed with a carrier oil of your choice so that you may reap its benefits. The oil comes tightly sealed in a dark blue bottle with a screw cap, which can easily be replaced with a dropper cap that allows you to take the oil in required amount (as many drops of oil as you wish to take) as per your convenience without wastage or spillage.

NYKAA LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL- HOW TO USE (WHAT THE WEBSITE CLAIMS)

  •  “Skin: Dilute 2 to 4 drops of lavender with a carrier oil of your choice, and apply it to your chosen area of skin to give it a general uplifting boost. Applying pure lavender oil to your skin (especially open wounds) could irritate your skin, so make sure you mix it into just a little bit of a carrier oil, such as coconut oil or jojoba oil especially if you have sensitive skin.
  • Hair: Lavender oil used daily as part of a stimulating scalp massage can help to regrow hair. Create a natural conditioner mask by blending lavender oil with olive oil or coconut oil and massage it into your scalp once in a week for a soft and shiny mane.
  • Aromatherapy: Rejuvenate and energize your mind and body by adding 3 to 4 drops of Lavender essential oil in the diffuser of your choice to create a calming environment. Add a few drops to a spray bottle, mix with distilled water and spray this mist around the room.
  • Relieve stress and improve sleep: Add a few drops (2-4) to a general unscented body lotion and rub into your feet before going to bed. You can add lavender oil to your bath water to help you wind down after a long, stressful day. Massage lavender oil into sore muscles to calm the pain and ease tension or add a few drops to an Epsom salt bath for a pain-relieving soak.
  • Natural deodorizer: Freshen your linen closet, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender essential oil with water in a spray bottle.
  • Repel insects and soothe insect bites: Mix 4-5 drops of lavender oil into water and spray onto your skin or clothes just as a mosquito spray

Caution:

  • Essential oils should always be applied after diluting with carrier oils/lotion or as mentioned in the directions to use.
  • The oils come with a leaflet with details of how to use, for more details, you can also contact our beauty experts online.
  • If applying an essential oil to your skin always perform a small patch test (after you have properly diluted the oil in an appropriate carrier.
  • For external use only.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Avoid contact with eyes.”

I use my Nykaa lavender oil in the following ways:

  • I mix a few drops of lavender oil with Grape seed oil or with Olive oil (say around 10 drops of essential oil with 4 spoons of carrier oil) and use this mixture as an aromatic body oil.
  • I add around 4 drops of this oil to 2 tbsp Ginseng Oil and use it for soothing my scalp, treat dryness of hair while the mixture imparts a pleasant fragrance to the hair shafts.
  • A few drops of lavender oil added to my bucket of water soothes my senses, especially after a hectic day at work; it induces relaxation.
  • Often, when I feel stressed or anxious, I add a drop or 2 of lavender oil to my pillow- This oil is well known for inducing sleep.

NYKAA LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL PROS

  • Bottle with a dropper cap allows to take the essential oil in the required amount
  • Can be mixed with carrier oils to make hair oil or body oil of your choice
  • Imparts sweet aroma to the oil used as a carrier oil
  • Induces relaxation
  • Helps reduce stress

NYKAA LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL CONS

  • The effect on dandruff isn’t that pronounced
  • Available online (not a con for me though, I love online shopping)

FINAL WORD

Nykaa Lavender Essential Oil is a decent product that you should have in your beauty shelf, especially if you love aromatic oils and practise aromatherapy. I would like to rate it at 4 out of 5. However, like any other essential oil, this oil too must be used with caution for best benefits.

I have used Aroma Treasures Lavender oil as well. Check out the review here.
