Free Trial Kit From Smytten App: Review

Recently, a lot of women around me have been discussing the Smytten App and its exclusive free trial kits. Well, I have also tried out their free trial kit and I would like to share my experience here in this post. Check it out!

Smytten App is a storehouse of so many beauty brands, both high end ones and budget ones, the popular ones and the lesser known ones, all under one roof. The app has two sections, distinctly proclaiming your preferences- ‘TRIALS’ and ‘SHOP’. So if you want to explore their trial samples, you just have to click on the TRIAL section and all kinds of samples that are available would be made available to you. At a time, you can try out only 6 samples and not more. In case you are interested in shopping some product, you need to explore the offers and brands, neatly arranged alphabetically under the SHOP section and add the items to your cart!

Today, I am just going to talk about the TRIAL section experience I have gathered from this App. I created my account and placed my order on 30-03-2019 at 11:41a.m. At check out I found that the ‘free’ trial isn’t really free; they charge Rs 199 for shipping. Since I was ordering for the first time, I decided to go for COD. For that I had to pay Rs 50 extra. So, my ‘free trial’ was priced at Rs 249/-.

I got a mail which said-
“Hi Somreeta
We’re very excited to let you know that your order has been shipped! Your Smytten goodies are well on their way and should reach you very soon. You can track your order here”
and the tracking id was given. This was on 30.03.19 at 7.26 p.m.

By the morning of 2nd April my Smytten Trial Kit was delivered to me.

All my products were neatly packed in bubble wraps, placed in a sturdy cardboard box and sealed well. Not a single product was damaged. Here are the items and a short review of each that I had ordered from the trial section-

Brand: Aerth Naturals

This tiny bar of soap (35g) is such a cute little piece of happiness. It is so gentle on skin. It’s white in colour and has tiny particles embedded to help in exfoliation whenever the soap is rubbed on the skin. Although it isn’t hydrating in the true sense, it isn’t drying too! It doesn’t strip moisture content from the skin, unlike most of the other soaps. It has a pleasant fragrance that soothes the senses at bath time but the fragrance doesn’t linger. If I am to rate the product, I would rate it at 4 out of 5.

Brand: Aaranyaa

The face scrub comes in a tube packaging which is easy to carry and easy to use. It is white in colour, thick and creamy in texture, has a mild fragrance and is filled with innumerable microgranules that help slough off dead cells to reveal smooth skin. It is not at all harsh on the skin, in fact it’s just right to qualify as an effective scrub. If I am to rate the product, I would rate it at 4.25 out of 5.

Brand: Just Herbs

This orange coloured face wash comes in a small bottle that looks like a bottle of cough syrup. The look, feel, texture and to some extent the smell too is like honey which has been diluted with a little bit of water or may be honey with a runny consistency. It lathers well and cleanses the skin efficiently without making the skin dry. If I am to rate the product, I would rate it at 4.25 out of 5.

Brand: St. D’vence

This clay-coloured ready-to-use face pack that comes in a small bottle with a flip-top cap is possibly one of the best products in the list, it is certainly my favourite. Never before have I used a readymade face pack that is so good! It has the perfect consistency, neither too thick nor runny, that is easy to apply and spread on the skin. It is like mixing multani mitti to rosewater, a DIY face pack but this one is without the drying effect that the DIY multani mitti face pack has. It cleanses the skin, helps control sebum and yet keeps skin hydrated. It smells of rose water, which I love! If I am to rate the product, I would rate it at 5 out of 5. I am already waiting for some good discount to be offered so that I can purchase a full size pack of this product.

Brand: St. D’vence

The white coloured moisturiser that comes in a plastic flip-top bottle (Similar to the bottle of Multani Mitti Lotion) is light-weight, non-greasy and mild, something that gets instantly absorbed into the skin. The smell is heavenly- somewhat floral and with a lot of nostalgia attached. If I am to rate the product, I would rate it at 4.75 out of 5. I might repurchase a full-sized pack of this product as well!

Brand: St. D’vence

This dark-green coloured face wash with an intense smell of tea tree is a pleasure to use. it helps control oil production, cleanses the skin effectively and is gentle on the skin. If I am to rate the product, I would rate it at 4.75 out of 5. I am planning to repurchase a full-sized pack of this product.

  • User-friendly app that guides you through the procedure
  • Quick shipping and delivery
  • Sturdy packaging
  • Although I ordered trial packs here, I think St. D’vence 60ml packs of Multani Mitti Lotion, Moisturiser & Ultra Light Hydrating and Tea Tree Face Wash do not really qualify as ‘trial samples’; they are almost like full-size products (considering there are hundreds of full-size moisturisers, face packs and face wash available in 50 ml packs)
  • All the products available for trial are also available in the SHOP section (some of them at discounted prices)
  • Each product that I ordered for trial is of decent quality, packaged properly and suits my oily skin. Also, each product can be used multiple times and certainly not once or twice or thrice- something that we take for granted whenever we think of trial packs.
  • They give back Rs 168 in the form of wallet discount applicable and redeemable in the next SHOP order from Smytten. So technically I got my trial products at Rs 81.

  • My free kit cost me Rs 249 (excluding the wallet discount)
  • I didn’t quite like the concept of Rs 50 extra being charged for COD, considering that there are so many online shops that do not add any extra charge for COD (though shipping charges may be applicable when the order value is under a certain given amount)
