ELLE 18 COLOUR POPS MATTE LIPSTICKS REVIEW: FIRST LOVE (#P27), BERRY DANCE (#W15), CHOCOLATE DAY (#B42)

BY SOMREETA MUKHERJEE

When I think of makeup, I think of lipsticks first. It has always been like that. I have been in true love with lipsticks right from my teenage days. I am 32 right now and the bond has only grown stronger. Recently I bought a few shades of Elle 18 Colour Pops Matte range from Nykaa.

Actually I had ordered First Love (P27), Berry Dance (W15) and Pink Show (P24). However, instead of Pink Show, the online store delivered Chocolate Day (B42), in the packaging of Pink Show. Since I liked the shade of Chocolate Day, I did not get into the hassle of getting it exchanged. Check out my review here:

Priced at Rs 100 for 4.3g, these lipsticks are must-haves for every lipstick lover. The lipsticks come in a cute and funky black twist-up packaging with a girl’s face printed on the cap. The packaging is attractive and makes it easy to carry around as well as easy to use.
ELLE 18 COLOUR POPS MATTE LIPSTICK REVIEW: FIRST LOVE (#P27)

A fresh, feminine and poppy shade that it is, First Love (#P27) is surely to be your first love! It has a soft, creamy-matte texture that’s easy to apply and leaves no creases behind. It’s a fun, girly shade that any teenager would love!

PROS

  • Creamy matte texture
  • Fresh and attractive shade of pink
  • Stays for 5 hours and leaves a pinkish stain behind even as it fades away
  • Doesn’t dry out the lips
  • Doesn’t bleed or crease

CONS

  • Low pigmentation that doesn’t conceal dry patches or uneven lip colour effectively
  • Reapplication is required
  • Isn’t a hydrating formula for lips (doesn’t keep the lips well moisturized for long)

ELLE 18 COLOUR POPS MATTE LIPSTICK REVIEW: BERRY DANCE (#W15)

It is a dark berry shade with a hint of chocolaty-maroon undertones. This too is a creamy matte lipstick with rich pigmentation that settles down to a semi-matte effect after or 2.5 hours of application. This shade too stays for 5 hours or more, but then leaves a dark stain behind even if it starts fading. It is a shade for mature women that (I feel) won’t go well with young girls.

PROS

  • Good pigmentation
  • Soft texture with creamy matte finish
  • Non-drying formula

CONS

  • Transfers a little
  • Difficult to remove as it leaves a dark stain behind

ELLE 18 COLOUR POPS MATTE LIPSTICK REVIEW: CHOCOLATE DAY (#B42)

A dark chocolate brown shade that may even look blackish with multiple swipes, this lipstick comes in semi-matte texture with satin finish. This shade may be sported with eastern as well as western wear with equal ease; however, it’s so dark and bold that not everyone may be comfortable sporting it!

Note: I got this shade packaged under a different name, so I had to do some research to find out which shade am I using.

PROS

  • Good pigmentation
  • A rich shade of brown
  • Smooth texture
  • Stays well put for 5 hours or more

CONS

  • Transfers
  • Difficult to remove

ELLE 18 COLOUR POPS MATTE LIPSTICKS PROS

  • Inexpensive
  • Quality as well as quantity is good
  • Attractive packaging
  • Nice shades
  • Mild and pleasant, caramel-like fragrance
  • Decent staying power of 4 to 5 hours
  • Soft texture
  • Non-drying formula

ELLE 18 COLOUR POPS MATTE LIPSTICKS CONS

  • Though it belongs to the matte range, the lipsticks are not 100% matte
  • Aren’t hydrating enough (I have used lipsticks that keep the lips hydrated even upto 8 hours post application)
  • Colour-coded packaging would help select the colours easily

RATING

Absolute must-haves, especially at the price they come! Rating is 4.75 out of 5.
