Malgudi Diaries At The Westin Rajarhat ,Kolkata

Remember those days as a child when the tune of malgudi diaries from the tv made us happy. We used to look forward to our favourite episodes from the malgudi diaries everyday. The Westin Rajarhat is bringing back those fond memories with their chettinad food festival: Malgudi Diaries.Happening till the 29th of April this food festival is unique as its displays a wide variety of chettinad cusine using authenting spices and ingredients.

No matter whichever cusine if try a simple coconut rice and some gravy is something thay comforts me and at this festival at westin you would feel excatly that, satisfied and comforting.

On a recent bloggers meet we got to try the massive spread by Chef Dinesh and how pleasant was the experience.Chef Dinesh brings with him a decade of expertise in South Indian cuisine, and ensures that only the best makes it to the table. His culinary journey began in 2005, and he has since been working across different sections of FnB, making him an all-rounder in true sense of the term. He has worked in premiere properties across Coimbatore, Bangalore and Karur, and joined the Marriott family in 2015. His passion lies in South Indian cuisine, however he is also well-versed in North- Indian and Chinese cuisine.

We started our meal with some traditional pepper chicken and Chettinad fish fry. They were a beautiful blend of flavours and is a perfect way to start your meal. The list of dishes to watch out for is endless in this menu. To begin with, try out the ‘Paruppu Malli Rasam’, ‘Pineapple Rasam’, ‘Naatu Kozhi Rasam’ and ‘Mutton Milagu Rasam’ from among the soups. Among the starters, two vegetarian and two non-vegetarian options will be available to guests. Gorge on dishes like, ‘Mushroom Pepper Fry’, ‘Mini Fried Idli’, ‘Masala Bonda’, ‘Chinna Vengaya Rawa Pakoda’ among the vegetarian options and ‘Karaikudi Fried Chicken’, ‘Mutton Coconut Fry’, ‘Chettinadu Fish Fry’, ‘Mutton Sukka’ among the non-veg options. The ‘Kalan Pattani Chettinadu’, ‘Puthupatti Bonda Morru Kozhambu’, ‘Maangai Puzhi Curry’, ‘Chicken Chettinad’, ‘Manga Meen Kozhambu’, ‘Madhurai Mutton Curry’ in Some of the dishes the chef highly recommenda and cannot be missed. There are also two live counters where you can get your favourite dosas and appams. For all biryani lovers a special biryani counter is also there.

The complete menu is worth trying and every dish is a winner by itself but the coconut rice and the raw mango curry is a must try and i could just have them every single day.

To end the meal on a sweet and happy note we tried the Mysore Pak and Semiyan Payesam.
