The Salt House: Newest place In The City Of Joy

From the day the salt house opened its door ,it has been the talk of the town. This beautiful rooftop restaurant located at Shakespeare Sarani is not only romantic and cosy but also serves the most amazing European cuisine. With Saloni Jhunjhunwalla & Prachi Saraogi, founders of Kaos Gourmet and Chef Auroni Mookerjee heading the kitchen The Salt House is definitely a must visit place.

ABOUT THE SALT HOUSE:

The Salt House (Bar, Kitchen & Club) is set to be Kolkata’s newest European restaurant with a classic yet contemporary twist, focusing on giving tasteful food and cocktails made with the best local and international ingredients.
A chic café or bistro with three different sections (inside dining area, glass house and courtyard terrace area), there is something for everybody at The Salt House.

The iconic city of Kolkata is our inspiration – not the jaded past, but the inertia free present that’s evident to see in the city’s culture.
The Salt House wishes to contribute to the city’s F&B scene in the same way the city inspires so much of the nation’s pop-culture zeitgeist.

Our restaurant wishes to be at the heart of everything that’s great about the city.
Owned by Saloni Jhunjhunwalla & Prachi Saraogi, founders of Kaos Gourmet, the vision came alive through the execution and attention to detail of Chef Auroni Mookerjee.

The Salt House is set perfectly for every occasion ,be that a romantic date, friends day out or formal office parties. The place is divided into three sections:  inside dining area, glass house and courtyard terrace area. The courtyard terrace area is perfect for date nights as you dine under the stars with your loved one.

Now coming to the food Chef Auroni Mukherjee has done some really innovative things with the dishes. The food is European with a touch of local flavours and elements which makes everything stand out beautifully .Think Galda Chingri but cooked and executed like a Parisian Langoustine and served with Aoli Or Juicy Roast Chicken served with a side of Roast Potatoes & Creamed Poi & Kolmi Spinach Or a Gobindo Bhog Risotto served with Pumpkin Flower & Ricotta Fritters Or Pancakes and Waffles, served with not a side of Maple Syrup, but with Nolen Gur Or a zesty New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc paired with a Pan-roasted Bhetki Fillet.

On a recent bloggers meet we tried the best of food from the salt house and loved it to bits. The ambience food ,drinks and friends on a beautiful sunday evening had set the mood perfectly as we savoured some unique dishes while talking and laughing our hearts out.

Coming to the food, some of my favourites were the Poached pear, chevres and candied walnuts salad,Egg Florentine, quinoa asparagus and truffle risotto and pan roasted bhetki.

Now coming to the desserts, they were definitely the star. The doi, berry and kaos granola parfait is absolutely instagram worthy and is a very healthy yet tasty option. The Hazelnut Mousse, Salted Caramel & French Biscuit was my favourite and i couldn’t stop from ordering a second helping of this delicious dessert.

The salt house is one of the best places in the city when it comes to good food, decor and ambience and you will surely fall in love with it the very first time you visit this place.
