Now this is something that all food lovers of the city of joy was eagerly waiting for. After a huge success of The Monkey Bar we eagerly waited to have the fatty boa in the city and now finally making us all happy The Fatty Bao is opening it doors to the city of food lovers ,Kolkata.

We got a chance for an exclusive bloggers preview and such a perfect afternoon we had sipping  cocktails, having baaos and dim sums and joining in all the giggles and chuckles with bloggers friends.

Popular Asian Gastrobar, The Fatty Bao, a 75-seater, Izakaya and Noodleshop inspired Asian menu that’s brimming with fresh flavours and signature cocktails in a trendy, intimate space. This is the seventh outpost in India, after Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai (Bandra, Lower Parel, Powai and Andheri). The Fatty Bao promises a vibrant Asian dining and bar experience, successfully marrying a laidback vibe with award-winning food and drinks. The food and beverage teams draw inspiration from Asia’s diverse culinary repertoire and Executive Chef Prashanth Puttaswamy’s menu is inspired by an Izakaya – a Japanese Gastrobar. This comes across in the menu, which offers great variety while still ensuring that each dish has its own distinctive styles and flavour. Addictive small plates, soupy noodles, hearty bowls of ramen, the signature baos, expertly rolled sushi, chargrilled Robatayaki skewers, and a whole lot more means there’s always something new to try alongside your favourites. The desserts too are clever and creative so that there is never a dull moment when you dine here.

We started off our fatty experience with the Rainbow Roll, and Prawn Tempura Roll and Wild Mushroom and Truffle Oil Dim Sum.My favourite was the prawn tempura roll, the wild mushroom and truffle oil dim sum is a great option for this who are vegetarian .

Now it was time for the bao’s and we had the Eggplant Bao(miso marinated fried eggplant, kimchi cabbage and fried garlic), and Char Sui Bao(imported pork belly,BBQsauce, green apple kimchi and scallion). For those wanting a healthier option the salads are a must try.We tried the Green Mango & Papaya salad (with fresh chilli, honey, cherry tomato and crushed papayas) and Yum Nua which is a Thai spicy beef salad. The green mango and the papaya salad made me fall in love with it,the fresh and tangy flavours are quite irresistible.

The fatty Bao also offers some amazing small plates to accompany the cocktails they serve you.The  baked wanton cups,Brie Tempura ,Duck Nachos and Wasabi Prawns to name a few.

With  a slight nip in the air this is the perfect time to enjoy a hot bowl of Ramen.the Chasu Ramen is perfect for all you pork lovers, and if you are one you cannot miss The Fatty Bao PB&J (twice cooked pork belly with miso mustard jam). The PB&J was definitely the star of the show.

For Desserts we tried the Zen Forest  which is a yuzu parfait ,black sesame sponge, green tea moss, beetroot and black pepper sorbet  and sesame nougatine, Japanese cheese cake(sour cherries and vanilla bean ice-cream) and if you are chocolate lover you cant miss on the Cocoa Caramel which is a mix of milk chocolate cream, hazelnut praline crisps and flour less chocolate cake.

With a super fresh and warm vibe The Fatty Bao is the place for Asian cuisine with a spectacular view of our very own historical city Kolkata, which always had a strong association with Chinese Food and culture.A Sushi roll date with friends or good asian cuisine over cocktails The Fatty Bao is the definitely the place to be.
