“Bong Connection” ~ Poila Boisakh Special

Poila Boisakh is one of the most important occasions for all bengalis around the globe. It is the first day of the bengali calendar and we celebrate it to our best.

Poila boisakh is all about food, mishti (sweetmeat),family, friends and of course dressing up in a traditional bengali attire.

We calcuttans celebrate this day with utmost grandeur.I still remember As a kid i used to wait for poila boisakh to come.We kids were pampered on this day-,getting gifts from elders, wearing new clothes, eating roshogollas,it was just perfect.Every year My mother used to buy me a nice flowy cotton frock to wear for the bengali new year. But now as i have grown up into a traditional bengali woman i cannot do without a saree on this day.No matter what.

This year was quite a task to decide on wearing a saree as the summers in Kolkata is getting intolerable. But,What has to be done ,must be done.Poila boisakh cannot be celebrated without Rabindrasangeet, traditional bengali food and of course A SAREE.

So this poila boisakh i decided to go with a light modern Shibori  saree and paired it with a traditional baatik print blouse from EthnikYarn’s SS’16 collection..I wanted to keep the look really simple,so the only accessories i had on me were my Rayban round sunglasses(to beat the heat) and a watch. I totally loved how the look turned out,Modern yet traditional.I loved the mix of elements in this look. The black shibori saree was extremely comfortable, beautiful and simple whereas the Red Baatik blouse did all the talking.

Wish all my readers a very Happy and prosperous bengali new year.

Much Love
