MY EXPERIENCE WITH L’OREAL TOTAL REPAIR 5 INSTANT SMOOTHING AND NOURISHING OIL SERUM

My hair and scalp type: I have very oily scalp, prone to dandruff and scalp acne. Hence, I stay away from hair oils completely. At times, if at all necessary, I bank on a concoction of essential oils like tea tree or lemon, diluted with water or rosewater. However, my hair isn’t oily; it is normal. But, with the passage of time, my hair has become somewhat rough and lack-lustre may be because of shampooing my hair frequently to do away with the oil on the scalp or as a result of exposure to pollution day in and day out. That was the time when I was introduced to this hair serum.

My experiences: Initially I was a bit sceptical because it is an ‘oil serum’ and I wasn’t sure if this would suit me. However, after shampooing my hair, I poured out the required amount of serum, rubbed both the palms together and applied it on my hair, especially towards the ends (and NOT on or near my scalp). I loved the feeling. I liked the mild fragrance and then, the smooth feeling it imparted to my hair. It detangled my hair so easily. In fact, I always wait for my hair to dry completely before I comb my hair (because I always end up losing at least 20 to 30 strands of hair!). But after a long time, I actually combed my hair immediately after a shower and I was happy I didn’t get a chance to complain. After drying, my hair felt soft and smooth. It was not rough anymore.

Now, I use this leave-in serum each time I shampoo my hair (I have to use a shampoo 2 to 3 times a week). Hair feels soft, manageable and smooth.  Considering my hair and scalp type, I do not use a conditioner after shampooing my hair. So, this serum comes right after the washing!

L’OREAL TOTAL REPAIR 5 INSTANT SMOOTHING AND NOURISHING OIL SERUM CONS

  • I think its claim to ‘repair’ hair is a bit more than what it is capable of. It definitely improves the texture and appearance of hair but I don’t think it can permanently repair the damage done.

RATING: 4.25 out of 5

FINAL WORD: If you want a serum to help you detangle hair and make your rough and frizzy hair soft and smooth, L’oreal Total Repair 5 Instant Smoothing and Nourishing Oil Serum is definitely worth a try. At Rs 230 for 80 ml, this serum does a decent job.
